Banyard Millet Upma / Khichdi

500 gms, 1 Kg

Ingredients

Viruthai Banyard Rice – 1 cup

Garlic and ginger – 1 spoon finely chopped

Vegetables – carrot,beans,peas..,(Optional)

Curry leaves                  

Cumin- 1 spoon

Pepper – 2 spoons

Ghee – 5 spoons

Asafoetida –small pinch

Water – 4 cup

Steps:

  1. Heat a pan add Banyard millet Rice fry for a minute.Transfer it to another bowl and Soak it for 10 minutes
  2. Heat the pressure cooker and pour 2 spoon of ghee
  3. Add Cumin,pepper,Garlic and ginger.let them them cook for a minute
  4. Also can add vegetables of your choice and fry till it becomes soft
  5. Add Asafoetida and curry leaves
  6. Add soaked rice and water to it
  7. Once it comes to boil close the lid and pressure cook for 4 whistles
  8. At once the pressue releases add remaining 3 spoon of ghee and mix it gently
  9. Serve hot with sambar and coconut chutney or Cane jaggery
